Week 3a - Signs and Visual Communication - Digital Art Production Techniques

Wk 3a - Introduction to Adobe Illustrator
(I) Watch Mr. Webb's demonstration and post notes to do the following on your blog:
- Creating a new canvas (document)
(Press command + N to make a new document)
3 Sections of Adobe Illustrator (Toolbox [left], Menu bar [at the top],Panels [right])
Profile: Print,SIZE:letter,Orientation: portrait
Go to Window>Workspace>Reset essentials
To reset adobe illustrator when you first open the app
- Interface navigation, drawing tools (Illustrator's shapes & using the Pen Tool)
Rectangle (M)- makes squares and rectangles with sharp edges
Click and drag the rectangle on your document
ELLIPSE (L)
An ellipse is an oval or circle.
ROUNDED RECTANGLE- rectangle with round edges
POLYGONE TOOL- draws convex regular polygons
STAR TOOL- too add more edges tap the up arrow; to remove edges tap down arrow;to control the sharpness of the star, hold the command key while drawing the star
FLARE TOOL
a series of circles that appear when a camera is pointed at a bright light
PEN TOOL (P)
The pen tool allows you to create line segments and curves
SELECTION TOOL (V) - looks like a black arrow, use to select objects that you want to move, copy or delete 

- Setting the Fill Color, and the Stroke Color
First, select your object or line.
Second, click the fill color box to set the fill color,
OR click on the stroke color box to set the stoke color 
- Saving file formats (saving for Adobe Illustrator editing vs. Saving an image for the web)
Save adobe illustrator = (a) << can ONLY be opened in illustrator
Save for the internet/Your Blog = (.jpeg, .gif, .png) << can be uploaded to your blog
  

Monochromatic : visible light of a narrow band of wavelengths






Negative Space (or Positive Space) : the space around and between the subject(s) of an image.

Week 2 - Signs & Visual Communication, Part 2a - Elements of Design (Adobe Illustrator CS6)

Calligram : a phrase or word arranged in a way that creates a visual image














- the word is Bones and its showing an illustration of bones

   



                        





             
 -the word is woof and is showing an illustration of an animal that makes the sound which is a dog




   












-the word is elephant and its showing an image of the animal  


Pictograms : An icon or picture that describes its meaning 

-the pictogram is displaying that your able to run
-the pictogram is showing that female and males are allowed 

-the pictogram is showing that your able to bike or cycle
                           - This pictogram has the captain and co pilot, flight attendants , a flight attendant with bottle service, a flight attendant with luggage, airport security procedures for the 2nd row, the check in desk, people going to check their bags in , someone walking to check in their bag or to the plane, someone saying bye , people getting their bags , then someone who has a car to help him carry his bags to his destination.         
                                   
                        - The first image on the pictogram is someone swimming, then someone running, then badminton, then boxing, then cycling , then gymnastics, then hockey, then wrestling, then the next two are basketball , then the next two are hiding and shooting, then tennis, then  ping pong ,then swimming cycling and running , the last two are lifting weights.

 Rebus: A device that uses pictures to represent words or parts of words
- the first one says Be- lief the second one says eye sore, the third one says seal ant and the fourth one says trea son. the rebus is using a bee, leaves, an eye a sore, a seal, a ant, a tree, and a sun.
- this rebus says well to go. it is using a whale, and a goat.
This rebus says can you see i love you. It shows a can, a horseshoe, a letter c, an eye, a heart, and a horseshoe.
This rebus says eye love you 
This rebus says my deer child, eye received your letter of tuesday and am glad you got home well eye see.

Signs & Visual Communications, Part 1

yt- Alphabet : a set of letter used to make words to create various languages


















-Street sign : An object that advises you when things may happen or the things you may need to do 

-Advertisement : A way of letting the public know things about several different things 


- Constellation : an area of stars that are connected in variety of lines and different forms
-ASCII symbols : a variety of codes, symbols, numbers used to create a url 

- Electronic symbols : an icon thats used to represent electronic devices 

-Morse Code : a different example of alphabets used in codes

-American Sign Language : a form of communication with hands that can be used my the deaf communities
-Glyph : A symbol that expresses thoughts, ideas, and concepts

the first picture is indicating a camping place, its usually found outside near the woods. the second picture is indicating a bench it could be found at a park or beach,it tells people there are benches for them to have a picnic on. the third one indicates a cabin which is usually found near the woods, it tells people that theres cabins nearby. the next picture is a female and male allowed sign which can be found in the restroom, it tells people that both genders can use the restroom. the next picture is a letter p for parking which is usually found somewhere in a street it tells people if they can park in certain places. the next picture is someone sleeping which tells people there are resting places it can be found at a freeway exit. the next picture is a fork and knife which indicates that there are restaurants ahead it tells people where theres food to eat.the next picture is of someone walking through a gate in front of a place it could be found at amusement parks it tells people that they have to go through there before entering a place. the next picture indicates someone on a wheel chair, it tells people that handicap people are allowed or only  handicap people are allowed, you can usually find the picture at a parking area. the next picture is of a question mark it tells people to ask questions.the next picture is of milk and an apple, it tells people that you can eat food.the next picture is a phone sign which tells people that theres a phone box nearby or a pay phone nearby, it usually if found  on the side of freeways.the next picture is of a guy hiking, it indicates that its ok to hike or its a hiking area its found maybe at the bottom of mountains. the next picture is of a car going up a steep hill, its probably  at the bottom of streets or wherever the hill is located, it tells someone when theres a steep hill.the next picture indicates a ancor it probably tells people to watch out for them they are probably located near boats, a beach, etc. the next picture is someone scuba diving its probably found near the beach , it tells people that scuba diving is allowed. the next picture is a boat, found at the beach, and tells people boats are allowed . the next one is a yacht which can be found at the beach too and tells people its allowed. the next one is someone swimming it can be found near a pool or beach and it tells people that they can swim. the next one is someone fishing it tells people that fishing is allowed and its probably found at a lake. the next one is someone canoeing, it tells people that its allowed and usually found at a lake or beach. the next five have to do with ice skating, snow boarding, etc. it tells people that they have to do them and its probably found anywhere thats safe to ice skate.the next two have to do with horses it tells people that horseback riding is allowed and where the horses should be and it should be found near the horses. the next one is someone on a bike its found usually on the streets and it tells people that your allowed to bine in the area its posted on. the next one is a bus which is located in the streets and tells people that the bus will be coming at the area the sign is posted. the next one is a car which could be found on the streets and tells people if it can be there. the next one is someone on a motor cylce which could be found on the steret or freeway and it tells people if it could be there.the next one is a picture of a oil change on a car usually found at an auto shop or in the cars frame it tells people if they need an oil chance. the next one is a picture of a gas thing it tells people if they need gas and can be found of the cars frame or freeway. the next one is a plane and tells people theres an airport ahead and can be found near an airport. fhe next one is a trash can can be found near garbage and tells people where they can put their trash. the next one is a mail,tells people when they have mail and can be found at the post office. the next two are for emergencys the first one is a first aid that can be found on the sode of a freeway and the other one is a H for hospital and tells people where a hospital is and is found near a hospital.the other one is someone golfing tells people where they can golf and found at a golfing court. the next one is a fire burning wood can be found at a camp place and lets people know they can burn wood. the next one is someone throwing tash away can be found at an airport or museum it tells people where they can throw trash. the next one tells where someone can recycle and its located bear a trash can sign. the next one is a dog being walked which tells people there dog can be walked at the area and it can be found at the beach or park.the next one is a ambulance truck it tells people where ambulances  are supposed to be its usually located on the street.
The first picture is a soldier from long time ago. the next one is someone swimming. the next one is a city. the next one is a brief case. the next one is a boat. the next one is a beach ball. the next one is someone doing bmx. the next one is a steering wheel. the next one is a sewing machine. the next one is a fence. the next one is someone with a coffee mug. the next one is a two floor bus. the next one is skull with bones across its head meaning danger. the next one is a water tower. the next one is a piano. the next two are a coffee machine making coffee. the next one is a present. the next one is a chainsaw. the next one is a person. the next one is four leaf clover. the next one is a biker jumping. the next one is an eye. the next one is a microscope.. the next one is someone biking but picking their bike up while on it. the next one is a scooter. the next one is a biker standing up with their bike. the next one is a car. the next one is an alien ship. the next one is a director chair. the next one is a basket. the next one is a hat.
The 50 stars on the flag represent the 50 states.the 13 stripes represent the 13 british colonies that declared independence from the kingdom of great Britain and became the first states in the Union.The white on the flag means purity and innocence. The red and blue means vigilance, perseverance and justice.
